IFSB Executive Staff Bios

Jared Lane,Co-Founder

Founding Member, Jared Lane handled a bulk of the Player Personnel for the Wyoming Cavalry (National Indoor Football League) in 2005. Lane successfullysigned 7 players with either National Football League or Canadian Football League experience to play for the Wyoming Cavalry Organization. The team
went from 4-9 in 2004, to a franchise best 10-5 in the 2005 season. In direct correlation the Wyoming Cavalry attendance went up on average 500 fans per game over the season

Ken Robinson, Pro Player Personnel Director

Ken Robinson another founding member of IFSB, brings a wealth of knowledge to the company, with over 15 years of scouting  & Draft evaluating experience. He is a Canadian Football League scout for the Ottawa Renegades and also the founder of InterNATIONAL FOOTBALL SCOUTING, a football scouting & marketing services company that assists American football players & coaches with opportunities that exist overseas, as well as provides player personnel research, consulting, and evaluation services to overseas teams .In addition to his experience as a scout, Robinson helped install the Run & Shoot offense as a gameday strategist, QB/WR coach for Bound Brook High School in New Jersey and later served as an offensive assistant/LB's coach for Marcos DeNizia High School in Arizona.He Currently does advance gameplan scouting for Phoenix Christian High School in addition to his college & pro scouting.

 Mel Gray, Player Development

The Indoor Football Scouting Bureau is very pleased to announce the additon of Mel Gray to its Executive Staff. Mel's duties will include Indoor Film evalaution of players that  he and IFSB believe have the ability to play at the AFL, CFL, or NFL level but have been overlooked or needed to get more reps.In addition he will work in player development and help work with some of the Indoor's top flight WR's during IFSB's planned NFL Player Development combines after the Indoor Season. Mel is currently also coaching with the McHenry County Gladiators in Ilinois.
Mel Gray was a Wide Receiver for the St.Louis Cardinals from 1971-1982. By the time he finished his career with the Cardinals in 1982, Gray's production placed him among the leaders on the club's all-time receiving list with 351 receptions (third) for 6,644 yards (second) with 45 touchdowns (second) and an impressive 18.9-yard career average-per-catch. In addition, he departed the NFL with a streak of 121 consecutive games catching a pass, at the time second in league history to 127 games by Harold Carmichael.
Mel attended the University of Missouri with the intention of pursuing his career as a track standout, and squeezing in football as time permits. While in Columbia, Gray was a sprint champion and won seven of nine 100-yard crowns on the Drake-Kansas-Texas relay circuit. He was named the outstanding performer in the 1970 meet with first-place finishes in the 100- and 220-yard dashes, first in the long jump, and added a third place showing in the triple jump to personally account for a record 38 points.

Armed with a 4.3 clocking in the 40-yard dash, Gray authored a brilliant rookie season with the Cardinals as he averaged 24.7 yards on 30 kickoff returns and 29.7 yards receiving with 18 receptions for 534 yards, including long-range scoring plays of 80, 64, 60 and 57 yards.In 1974, "Air Coryell" hit new heights as Hart, Smith, Gray, and running back Terry Metcalf carried the club to a 10-4 record. Gray's team-best 19.7-yard receiving average and six touchdowns helped secure the club's first NFC East title and his first of four consecutive Pro Bowl selections and a pair of all-pro honors.
 
Ron Erhardt, QB/Offensive Specialist Player Evaluator
Ron Erhardt was a head coach for the National Football League's New England Patriots. He gained greater fame as an Offensive Coordinator for the New York Giants,Pittsburgh Steelers, and New York Jets. Erhardt was in charge of the offense during the Giants' two Super Bowl wins in Super Bowl XXI and Super Bowl XXV. He was also the offensive coordinator for Pittsburgh in Super Bowl XXX.Coach Erhardt will lend his expertise in evaluating the Indoor Football League's top offensive players as an Independent scout as well as conduct private workouts for select only QB's/WR's in the Florida area. 

Richard Wade, CFL Scout/Player Evaluator

Richard Wade was the Director of Football Development for the Ottawa Renegades in 2006. Wade, a Los Angeles native served in a multi dimensional role as an assistant special teams coach, and was involved in Canadian and U.S. player talent evaluations, facilitated player contracts and acted as a liaison between the Renegades media department and the Renegade coaching and personnel department.Richard is a bright young man who has a wide range of talents that will serve the Indoor Football Scouting Bureau well. Former Ottawa Head coach John Jenkins stated Richard has already worked as a regional scout in the Western States for Ottawa and Calgary plus he was a guest coach with the Calgary Stampeders, so I know he will be a major asset for our organization. Richard's primary duties with IFSB will be as a player evaluator/college scout with an emphasis being on writing scouting reports for the top indoor players that have CFL potential. He will also assist IFSB with its planned regional combines.

 Josh Buchanan, Director of College Scouting

Josh Buchanan has recently joined IFSB  to help in player ratings, profiles, and assisting clients in player selection. He adds this duty to also working for The Sports Xchange where he conducts interviews, writes up profiles, and helps with player research for many publications including USA Today Sports Weekly, NFLDraftScout.com, and has even done a DVD review for ABC Sports' BCS Series last season.  He is also head of the Pro Hopefuls for www.D2football.com where he covers all-star games, writes profiles, and previews the NFL Draft.  At the age of 17 he started contributing to the College Scouting Bureau and does to this day.  He still aids in database work and profile work at times.Buchanan has contributed to a Division I-AA website where he was responsible for helping to compile All-Conference teams, player ratings, and All-American teams.  He also did player interviews as well as the complete NFL Draft and All-Star Game coverage.  His work has been featured in the website's first three preseason magazines published since the beginning of his career.Josh was hired by Darry Alton, in 2004, as the 2005 Las Vegas All-American Classic Assistant Sports Information Director where he assisted in player selection and coordinated the press box on game day.  He also wrote bios on players for the game program as well. He aided the Magnolia Gridiron Classic in player selection this season for the I-AA roster and wrote bios for the LVAAC game program again this year to aid Josh Buchanan: He aided the Magnolia Gridiron Classic in player selection this season for the I-AA roster and wrote bios for the LVAAC game program again this year to aid Darry Alton once again.He is a member of the National Football Foundation as well.  Buchanan currently resides in Lancaster, SC where he is a junior in college who aspires to be an NFL Draft Analyst or sideline reporter for ESPN or work in player personnel
for an NFL team.
 
Raymond Philyaw, AFL QB Scout
   Ray Philyaw is arguably the best QB to ever play the indoor game and the Indoor Football Scouting Bureau is pleased to have him on board as a QB scout as he begins his scouting career while continuing to entertain offers from AFL teams.Raymond is a graduate of Northeast Louisiana and is the school's all-time leader with 52 touchdown passes. He also is second on NE Louisiana's passing charts with 7,061 yards. Philyaw's four year totals include 477 completions on 924 attempts with 22 interceptions.In 6 years in the AFL ,Philyaw has completed 1311 of 2052 passes (63.9%) for 15,604 yds with 289 touchdowns and incredibly just 32 picks for a QB rating of 115.72. Among Philyaw's duties with IFSB will be evaluating and writing up scouting reports on the top developmental indoor QB prospects who have potential for AFL ,CFL or NFL opportunities.

 

Grant Noel, Player Evaluator/Scout
Grant Noel was a preseason and postseason All America pick by PrepStar during his High School days at Frankfort High in West Virginia. ....he was rated the No 2 QB in the Eastern Region by that publication. Helped the football team to a 29-4 record during his career and also lettered in basketball and baseball. .....Grant went on to become the starting QB for Virginia Tech in 2001 throwing for 1826 yards on 146 of 254 passing in 11 contests..........Grant's career was slowed by two kneee injuries but he bounced back both times and was signed by the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent in 2003 and was listed as the #3 QB that year..........Grant will serve as an independent scout for IFSB......His duties will include writing player evaluation reports on the top indoor players and assist with player combines in the Baltimore,MD and Washington, DC areas

 

Braden Abshire, Director of Pro Football Operations

Braden brings a variety of Football Experience to the IFSB team.  His experience includes a minicamp internship with the Indianapolis Colts, a season in Football Operations with the Arena Football League Office, and a year of scouting with a Florida based scouting company in which he managed the SW Region database of prospects and provided scouting write-ups each week.  In addition, he co-coordinated an NAFL All-Star Combine at Disney's Wide World of Sports that netted several NFL and AFL tryouts, and he has been involved with various other football combines.  He has also consulted for several NFL contracts for multiple agents, including two Pro Bowl contracts.  During the 2005 season, Braden was involved with the Texas State Football Program that reached the National  IAA Semi-Finals.   He has a degree in Finance, and a minor in Marketing from The University of Texas at Austin, one of the top Business Programs in the nation.  Braden is heavily involved with Live Oak Community Church in Austin (www.liveoakaustin.com) where he is part of the Worship Team and involved in Longhorn Life, a student ministry on the UT Campus; he has a heart to one day set up Christian Football Camps across the nation. In his role with IFSB, Braden will manage the IFSB player database , coordinate football combines and serve as a Southwest area Player Evaluator.

 

Ken Becks, Player Evaluator /Scout 

Ken Becks is a Player Evaluator/Scout with the Indoor Football Scouting Bureau. He also is a senior college football analyst for FFToolbox.com. His duties include offering his scouting evaluations for the top indoor prospects at a discounted rate.These will be updated,detailed scouting reports on the players indoor performance and will be sent to AFL,CFL or NFL teams depending on the players target level and/or abilities. These will be offered in 3 game segments at a reduced rate and will be very beneficial for the players who are needing to develop in other positions and will be from an unbiased source which will be beneficial to player agents as well. He is an aspiring NFL scout and has been evaluating NFL caliber talent for over ten years. Within a college football season, he tapes hundreds of college games and uses his unique eye for talent to evaluate each college teams players. Examples of college players in the past that were not highly coveted on draft day, but that Ken was high on: QB Jeff Garcia, QB Aaron Brooks, RB Priest Holmes, DE Adewale Ogunleye.This year he was the first draft evaluator to list QB Jay Cutler as the top QB in the Draft.

 

Raj Thompson, Player Evaluator/Scout
 Raj Thompson was born in Los Angeles, Ca. and currrently lives in Downey, Ca where he works as a personal trainer.  He played high school football at Downey High where he played running back, strong safety.  As a senior in high school, he led the league in rushing yards with 1,482, 5.5 yards per carry, and 20 touchdowns. Raj was Co-MVP of the San Gabriel Valley League, and made the East vs. West 605 All-Star game.  Finished the game with 10 carries for 72 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Received a full football scholarship to play at Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo.  Played two years at running back before making the switch to defense to play rover (Linebacker/Safety).  Started at rover Junior and Senior year.  Finished senior year fourth on the team with 59 tackles, 13 tackles were for a loss of 65 yards.  First on the team with 7.0 sacks.  Graduated from Cal Poly with a BA in Political Science with a concentration in Criminal Justice.  Played football for the German Football League (GFL) for the Saarland Hurricanes.  Led the team with 2.0 sacks.  Came back to the states and took a NFL General Manager and Scouting course with Sports Management WorldWide (SMWW) . His instructor was former Cleveland Browns and Rams NFL scout Russ Lande.  Gained knowledge on the criteria for player evaluation . Raj will be an entry level player evaluator & scout for IFSB in addition to his duties as a California college scout. He will also assist  the Indoor Football Scouting Bureau with its player evaluation combines.
 
Chris Russell,Player Evaluator/Scout
   Chris Russell is originally from New Milford, New Jersey and currently lives in Troy, NY.  Chris played high school football at Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell, NJ where he played offensive and defensive line.While serving as an officer in the US Army at Fort Lewis Washington, Chris coached offensive line and scouted future opponents for the post 8-man football league.  Following the military, he spent a year as the Offensive Coordinator and line coach for the Nashua Predators of the New England Football League.  He is currently a scout and assistant coach for Tamarac High School in Brunswick, NY.He has graduated from Marist College, Poughkeepsie, NY with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Babson College, Wellesley, MA with a Master of Business Administration.Chris' role with IFSB will be as an entry level scout . His duties will include writing player evaluations with an emphasis on the OLine and DLine indoor prospects.He has recently completed a scouting course with Sports Management Worldwide which was taught by former NFL scout Russ Lande.

Mike Wyatt, NIFL Atlantic Conference Scout
Coach Wyatt  will oversee & recommend top talent from the National Indoor Football League (NIFL)  http://www.niflfootball.com   Atlantic Conference  for IFSB's planned player development combines after the indoor season.These will  be run by a top scouting service and will be by invite only in front of NFL, NFLE, CFL and/or AFL personnel.Coach Wyatt brings over 27 years of coaching and scouting experience to the IFSB team which include  stints in college , overseas and his current pro indoor with the NIFL.He has twice been named NIFL Atlantic Conference coach of the Year after the 2004 and 2005 seasons as well as General Manager of the Year in 2005.  Wyatt has also served as a Midwest area scout  for two years in the CFL with the Ottawa Roughriders writing reports and making  recommendations on signings, trades , and cuts.
 
 
 
 
Dan Whitsett, NIFL Pacific Conference Scout
Coach Whitsett  will oversee & recommend top talent from the National Indoor Football League (NIFL)  http://www.niflfootball.com   Pacific Conference  for IFSB's planned player development combines after the indoor season.These will  be run by a top scouting service and will be by invite only in front of NFL, NFLE, CFL and/or AFL personnel.Whitsett began scouting both amateur and professional baseball talent for the Network Scouting Service. He has been responsible for sending over 80 baseball players to college and professional baseball in the last 10 years. His scouting abilities transferred into the game of football and since 2000 he has sent several small college athletes into Arena Football and to CFL camps.
He is currently the Head Coach of the Tri Cities Fever.Under his guidance, the Fever went 12-4 last year while finishing 13-5 overall and won the Indoor Bowl V National Championship over the Rome Renegades.
He is also the Head Football coach at Tri-Cities Prep High School in Pasco. In his first season under the helm in football he led Prep to their first winning season in school history, and then followed that up with an 8-2 record in 2005 and a 6th overall ranking in the State.  Coach Dan is the President and Founder of the Pac-NW8 High School Football Association. Started by Whitsett in 2000, the Association promotes and enhances 8-man high school football programs from Oregon, Washington and Idaho. Each summer Whitsett puts on the Pac-NW8 "Elite Prospect Camp" for college football prospects from the region that play at the 8-man level.

Coach Esposito will oversee & recommend top talent from the Intense Football League (IFL) http://www.intensefootballleague.net   for IFSB's planned player development combines after the indoor season.These will  be run by a top scouting service and will be by invite only in front of NFL, NFLE, CFL and/or AFL personnel.Before taking over the Roughnecks he was Most recently the head coach for the Erie Freeze, a franchise noted to be one the best operated in the American Indoor Football League, “Espo” brings a wealth of football experience to Odessa. He was a unanimous choice for the 2005 AIFL Coach of the Year and both he and his team enjoyed a regular season title and home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Prior to his service as both the business GM and Head Coach in Erie, Esposito held the same titles with the Cincinnati Swarm of the Arenafootball 2. Esposito garnered the position after righting the floundering ship of AF2’s Rochester Brigade

 Andrew Ellison, Director of Minor League Scouting -Eastern Region

Coach E  was a member of 2 National Championship Teams and helped sign over 100 player contracts and arranged over 200 Player tryouts! He most recently was inducted into the Minor League Football Hall of Fame on December 8th,2005. He has worked with many pro teams at Free Agent Tryouts and was a Camp Director for FASCO.Coach E's duties with IFSB will include coordinating player development combines in search of the top semi pro talent on the eastern seaboard and individual player placement.

Josh Walters, Area Scout , Research & Quality Control

A sports management student with 8yrs. of football playing & coaching experience, including one year in the semi-pro Ohio valley football league. Josh has been evaluating college talent on his own for over 5 years and is a former sales representative for www.indoorfootballfan.com  who hopes to one day work as a head coach or GM at either the college or minor pro levels. Josh's duties include information research , player evaluation & scouting and indoor team client relations with an emphasis on the  Great Lakes Indoor Football League (GLIFL) http://www.glifl.com .

Nick is from Panama City, FL where he played football at Rutherford
High School. He currently attends the University of West Florida and is
majoring in Public Relations. He is a columnist for NFL Draft Blitz
www.nfldraftblitz.com . His duties at IFSB are information research,
player evaluation, scouting, and individual player placement for the
Florida region. He is looking for future football opportunities as they
come along, whether it is professional or collegiate.

 

Leon Hughes,  Pa./Ohio Pro Personnel ,Big East Scout & Player Evaluator

Leon Hughes is originally from Philadelphia, PA and currently lives in Hazleton PA. Leon’s role with IFSB will be as an entry level scout.  His duties will include college scouting and player personnel evaluations with a particular emphasis on the secondary. Leon has recently completed a scouting course with sports management worldwide which was taught by former NFL scout Russ Lade.

 

Sohel Hussain, Area Scout, Research & Quality Control

Sohel's duties include information research, player evaluation and scouting of  both the Minor League Outdoor and Indoor levels with an emphasis on the Eastern Region.Sohel will also help coordinate player development combines and handle individual player placement for entry level indoor players on the Eastern Region.

Kurt Harmening, Area Scout, Research & Quality Control
" From the Hartford area, Kurt Harmening has been evaluating college football talent on his own for 5 years, and has been a senior columnist/evaluator at NFL Draft Blitz for going on a year. With a specialty in offensive lineman, Kurt's column "In the trenches" concentrates on this aspect and its surrounding effect on the college and pro game. He also has spent time recently preparing content for the new York Jets fan site Theganggreen.com's yet to be released draft page,and looks forward to future opportunities as they present itself".Kurt's duties with IFSB will include information research, player evaluation, and scouting with an emphasis on college Offensive Linemen as well as indoor team client relations.

Graduated from the University of New Mexico with a BS in 1971 and a Masters in administration in 1972. Was a member of the University of New Mexico Football team. Also an all-American Gymnast while at the University of New Mexico. Was President of Pennsylvania Special Olympics from 1989-1992. Has been involved with Football Operations for SMMI since 1987 with a sabbatical while President of Special Olympics Pennsylvania. Currently the managing director of the YMCA of Beaver County, Pennsylvania.
